Main Aim

The main aim of the project was to create involvement about/for/with the LGBTQIA+ queer youth and those allies to the community to increase their active participation in society and specifically in their local communities.

Between 2022 – 2025, over the span of three years, together with our partners, youth workers and young people, we have been working and building up on the developing methodology of activism through non-formal learning (ANFL) that is the core of our work, on how we can use non-formal learning as a tool for sustainable activism and inclusion of LGBTQIA+/Queer youth coming from intersectional backgrounds.

We focused and worked on 3 interconnected pillars – active participation, tools/types of activism, physical & mental health and complimentary objectives.

Working Pillars

ACTIVE PARTICIPATION

Increase the participation of queer youth. Through the created opportunities and spaces, offer possibilities for young people to identify the ways that work for them and they would like to include themselves (accountability), and learning how to create meaningful change in their social environments (social inclusion in action).

Participants learn how to self-organize, collaborate, host and organize activities, local events and study visits, increasing their personal growth and competencies.

TOOLS/TYPES OF ACTIVISM

Explore and identify the impact that different tools for activism can have on young people.

Deconstruct the notion of defined activism as “there is only one way to do it”, and encourage participants to construct their own definitions, and try out different forms of activism that they feel more comfortable with and spark joy in their hearts.

Those forms can be art, community building, street actions, protesting, digital activism, non-formal learning, and more.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH

Support young activists in how to create safer and braver spaces for each other and their peers, offering peer-to-peer support systems and learning, using outdoors, nature-based activities and other non-formal learning tools that promote well-being.

The physical, emotional and mental health of participants was explored throughout the project and it is an integral part connected to youth participation and engagement.

Complimentary Objectives

Increase the quality and recognition of LGBTQIA+/Queer youth work, enhancing the organizational capacities, experiences and competencies of those working with queer youth and other marginalized, vulnerable and intersectional groups.

Create and promote the innovative method of “activism through non-formal learning” (ANFL) and make it accessible and available for youth workers and young activists themselves to use it.

Promote Erasmus+ programme and non-formal learning as a beneficial tool for activism and social change in the European, local and national contexts.

Timeline of Activities

Below, you can follow the chronology of our queer activation. We share the main outline of the activities that took place in the six participating countries, Latvia, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Estonia and Slovenia.

Between the activities, and specifically after each main learning activity among the youth exchanges, training course and study visits, a series of local activities (multiplier events) were taking place in each country organized by the participants with the aim to multiply the impact, share project results and tools, and engage with the target groups, including queer and allies youth, and other associated partners and organizations.
