Study Visit in Slovenia
Moja Mavrica partners organized the second study visit within the project in July 2024, in Črmošnjice.
The 5-days learning experience brought together 18 LGBTQIA+/Queer and allies youth workers, young leaders, activists, ngo staff, including coordinators and participants of the Activate Youth project.
The visit followed an experiential learning approach offering a planned, hands-on educational, personal and professional journey designed to deepen knowledge, foster networking and exchange best practices.
Though this time, the focus of the study visit was on exploring and diving deeper into the work of the organization and its members, in connection with the themes of well-being and mental and physical health.
We explored our path in activism through exploring our personal Activism Compass in the rural landscape. We looked inwards and outwards to discover what drives and motivates us, what our strengths are and how we can make our fight sustainable.
The study visit focused on individual and group work, through various non-formal and creative methods.
The core method of the study visit was Activism Compass that is a reflective and creative framework that helps guide activists through different dimensions of change-making. Each “direction” invites participants to explore a key aspect of activism — from strengthening Community, to imagining The Future, and embodying their activist selves through creative practice.
Through group discussions, visioning exercises, letter-writing to future selves, utopian thinking, nonviolent direct action planning, photo challenges, theatre improv, and movement work, the compass connects reflection with action. It encourages participants to dream boldly, ground their ideas in community, and experiment with practical and expressive tools for social change.
Between all the sessions and visits, participants got to connect, and network, strengthening the projects’ youth work community. They got to learn more about the project too, how they can get involved in the future project activities and which good practices they could bring back to their organizations and target groups.
